Paying It Forward: Texian Donates an Ice Machine to a Texas Church

April 27, 2026 — Waco, TX This past week our tech Clay loaded up an ice machine, drove well out of our normal Heart of Texas service area, and donated and installed it for a Texas church. No invoice, no work order — just a chance to pay it forward. We don’t always have spare equipment to give away, and we’d never want to set the expectation that we do. But when the right opportunity comes along and we have the means to help, we’re glad to take it.

Why an Ice Machine Matters to a Church or Nonprofit

For folks who haven’t thought much about it, ice can sound like a small thing. It isn’t. Churches, schools, nonprofits, and community organizations rely on reliable ice for a long list of everyday needs:
  • Fellowship meals, potlucks, and after-service gatherings
  • Outreach events, food drives, and community meals
  • VBS, youth group events, and summer camps
  • Funeral receptions and memorial services
  • Volunteer hydration on hot Texas days
A working commercial ice machine isn’t a luxury for these organizations — it’s part of how they serve their people. Replacing one out of pocket is a real budget hit, and rentals or repairs aren’t always in the cards.

What Churches and Nonprofits Should Know About Commercial Ice Machines

If your organization is thinking about an ice machine — whether donated, refurbished, or new — here are a few things worth knowing before installation:
  • Size it to your real demand. A unit that’s too small runs constantly and wears out fast. Too big, and you’re paying for capacity you’ll never use.
  • Plan for water quality. Hard water is hard on ice machines. A simple filter setup extends the life of the unit dramatically.
  • Build maintenance into the calendar. Cleaning the condenser, sanitizing the bin, and checking water lines twice a year keeps the machine producing and protects food safety.
  • Refurbished can be a smart move. A well-maintained used unit, professionally inspected and installed, can save thousands without sacrificing reliability.
  • Consider a rental if budget is the bottleneck. Ice machine rentals include service and replacement, which can make sense for organizations that need predictable monthly costs.
