Case File: A Six-Tap Glycol Draft System for an Axtell Restaurant — October 2026

Not every glycol job starts with a failure. This one started with an estimate. An Axtell restaurant wanted draft beer at the bar, with the kegs kept in the beverage walk-in cooler some distance away.

The hard part of any long draft run is keeping the beer cold between the cooler and the faucet. Beer sitting in an uncooled line warms up, and warm beer pours foamy. A glycol trunkline solves that. The beer lines and the glycol supply and return lines are bundled inside one insulated trunk, so chilled glycol travels alongside the beer the whole way to the tap.

The run decides the equipment. Trunkline length and the number of products on it set how much cooling the glycol chiller has to deliver. Plan the route before the bar is built, not after.

Case File: A Failed Compressor Relay on a Waco Glycol Unit — September 2026

A Waco restaurant called in because its lower glycol unit had stopped cooling. The loop itself was not the problem. The refrigeration side of the unit was not doing its job.

Clay traced the fault to the compressor relay. That relay is the switch that sends power to the compressor when the controls call for cooling. When it fails, the compressor never starts, and the unit looks dead even though the compressor itself may be perfectly healthy.

On the first visit, Clay bypassed the failed relay to get the compressor running and the system cooling again. That was a stopgap, not a repair. A bypassed relay takes the compressor out of normal control switching, so it is a bridge to get the operator through until the right part is in hand.

He returned, installed a new 2-pole DPDT relay, and started the unit. The compressor came back up on its normal controls. While he was there, Clay also cleaned the condenser coil so the system is not fighting heat rejection on top of everything else.

“Not cooling” does not automatically mean a dead compressor. A failed relay produces the same symptom, and it costs a fraction of a compressor to replace.
A bypass is a bridge, not a fix. If a tech bypasses a control to keep you running, ask what was bypassed and when the permanent part goes in.
