A Waco restaurant scheduled preventative maintenance on a rooftop air conditioning unit whose condenser coils looked clean from the roof deck. Clay pulled the guards and washed the fins with pressurized water, and the runoff came off dark and heavy with grease and road grime carried in on the airstream. Surface inspection misses that loading because it sits deep in the fin pack, where it chokes heat transfer and pushes head pressure up through a Texas August.
