An MRI is not cooled for comfort. When Stage One Goes Quiet

And the contactor still would not pull in.
This is the part worth sitting with. The first fault was real, and fixing it was necessary. It was also not sufficient. The controller failure had been masking a second, independent failure downstream — a contactor whose coil would no longer close the load side even with proper voltage present at its terminals. A replacement contactor is on order, and we are returning to complete the repair.

Why Two Faults at Once Is Not Bad Luck
Stacked failures on a single circuit look like coincidence and almost never are. A controller that stops closing its contact and a contactor that will not pull in are both wear items on the same electrical path, exposed to the same conditions:
- Vibration — a mobile unit spends its life being shaken down the interstate.
- Heat — ambient temperatures in a trailer equipment compartment run far above the shaded air outside.
- Cycling — every start and stop is a small mechanical and electrical event, and these systems cycle constantly.
- Age — components installed together tend to reach the end of their service life together.
Chase the first thing you find, declare victory, and you will be back on site inside a week. Verifying the repair end to end — power at the contactor, contactor actually pulling in, compressor actually energizing — is what separates a diagnosis from a guess.
What Imaging Operators Can Do Before the Call
Cooling failures on imaging equipment are rarely a total surprise if someone is watching for them:
- Trend the loop temperature rather than waiting for an alarm. A circuit that is slowly losing ground is telling you something weeks early. Wireless monitoring and alerting makes that trend visible without anyone standing there.
- Treat electrical wear as scheduled maintenance. Contactors and controllers are consumables on a high-cycle system, not permanent fixtures.
- Keep the condenser coil clean. Restricted heat rejection raises head pressure and shortens the life of everything upstream of it.
- Know who you are calling before you need to call them. A unit on a scanning schedule cannot wait two days for someone to drive in from out of the area.
